Recruiting at all levels!

We are broadly interested in exceptionally driven individuals with background and/or interests in gene regulation, synthetic biology, functional genomics, quantitative/systems biology, cell differentiation control, tissue regeneration, and immuno-oncology.

Currently, we have specific projects that could be a strong fit with individuals experienced or interested in gene regulation, liver biology, and/or cancer immunology (esp. prostate cancer).

We are also interested in individuals with a quantitative background to pursue interdisciplinary work that merges theory and experimental implementation of algorithms for efficiently exploring numerous combinations of genetic perturbations.

We value strong work ethic, enthusiasm, creativity, rigor, and affinity for collaborations.

We strive to create a supportive environment where individuals are encouraged to grow together scientifically and professionally by challenging ideas, each other, and themselves.

Prospective graduate students:

You must be admitted to one of the UCSF graduate programs before we can consider you for a rotation. For admitted UCSF graduate students, please contact Chris with your CV, a statement of your interest in the lab, and potential start and end dates of rotation. I am happy to discuss the potential for co-mentorships, where appropriate, such as for students with interests in computation or specific biological domains in tissue biology.

Prospective postdocs and physician-scientists:

Please see additional descriptions in the job posting. We are always interested in individuals at the post-doctoral level who bring expertise complementary to our core strengths. I am happy to discuss potential formal or informal co-mentorship arrangements that may strengthen your career development, if appropriate. We are surrounded by broad and deep scientific expertise that complement our existing strengths. Exceptional candidates will be considered for opportunities to work collaboratively with help from junior specialists.

Please contact Chris with your CV, a statement of your interest in the lab, potential start date, and contact information for 2-3 references.

Prospective junior specialists:

We are interested in individuals who can commit to ~2 years of full-time work, with preference for prior molecular biology lab experience. The nature of the work will depend on the experience and capability of the individual, with strong candidates given opportunities to independently drive and contribute creatively to projects. Interested individuals will receive relevant career mentorship, including MD and/or PhD career paths.

If interested, please submit your CV via the
job posting and, additionally, please directly email Chris with your CV and the following information as an attachment.

1. Why are you interested in the lab?

2. Are you planning to apply to graduate/professional school within the next 3 years? If so, what type of program are you considering and when do you plan to apply?

3. What are the earliest and latest dates you can start?

4. Please provide the contact information for 1-3 references. We are looking for people who would be willing to speak to us about their experience working with you in your previous research and/or job positions.

5. If you graduated from college <5 years ago, please provide your academic transcripts for all of your education starting from undergraduate degrees and above.
